History of CSWU
How the University was established
On 3rd September 1999, the Sejm of the Republic of Poland passes an Act establishing the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw . The act, unamended, is adopted on 22nd September 1999 by the Senate of The Republic of Poland, and signed by the President of the Republic of Poland on 30th September 1999. The wording of the Act is published in the Journal of Laws of 1st October 1999. The Act enters into force on 16th October 1999 (the 21st anniversary of John Paul II election to the Papacy) with the effective date of 1st October 1999.

Death of Cardinal Adam Kozłowiecki
On 28 September 2007 Cardinal Adam Kozłowiecki dies at the age of 96 in Zambia, a many year well-known Polish missionary in Africa, Cardinal Presbyter of the Title San Andrea in Quirinali, a holder of an honorary doctorate from the CSWU in Warsaw.

Great Order of Poland Restored and an honorary doctorate from CSWU for Polish missionary Cardinal Adam Kozłowiecki
On 25 July 2007 Cardinal Adam Kozłowiecki is awarded Great Order of Poland Restored (Polonia Restituta) and an honorary doctorate from the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw. The order is awarded to the Purpurate by Piotr Latawiec, a member of the CSWU Senate and director the the University's Main Library, whereas the honorary doctorate is awarded to him on behalf of the University's Rector and Senate by the delegation of Fr Professor Jarosław Różański and Fr Professor Józef Kulisz. The ceremony takes place at the Mpunde mission in Zambia.
Second CSWU Psychology Picnic
On 24-26 June 2007 takes place the Second Psychology Picnic organized by the CSWU Society of Psychology Students. Within the event there is also held a CSWU scientific picnic.
2nd ATK-CSWU Alumni Reunion
On 16 June 2007 the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw organizes the Second ATK-UKSW Alumni Reunion held at 5 Dewajtis Street.
7th Lecture of Bielańskie Open Lectures series
On 16 June 2007 the 7th open lecture on 'People hard of hearing and finger language' takes place in the series of the Bielańskie Open Lectures.
CSWU Professor Bohdan Cywiński appointed member of the Chapter of Polonia Restituta
On 14 June 2007 Professor Bohdan Cywiński of the CSWU Faculty of History and Social Sciences is appointed another member of the Chapter of Polonia Restituta by President of Poland, Lech Kaczyński. He is also awarded the Great Order of Poland Restored.

CSWU Feast
On 28 May 2007 the CSWU Feast is celebrated and a ceremony of conferring the degree honoris causa on Bishop Prof. Antoni Stankiewicz is held.
CSWU Juvenalia
On 25 May the CSWU Juvenalia take place. There give their performance some Polish bands: RAZ DWA TRZY, Perfect, student bands, and a singer Stanisław Soyka.

29 April 2007 - Archbp Prof. Kazimierz Majdański dies at Łomianki near Warsaw. He was an initiator and its first director of the Insitute of Family Studies at the CSWU.

9 January 2007 - the ceremony of conferring the title of Doctor Honoris Causa on Bp Gerhard Ludwik Muller, bishop of Ratisbon, takes place. The CSWU Senate has acknowledged his outstanding merits in shaping Christian culture and modern humanism of nowadays' Europe and his significant scientific and didactic achievements mainly expressed in matching the output of the Church tradition with modern theological trends in the sphere of dogmatic theology.

Scientific conference on Christianity and Culture
14-15 November 2006 - A scientific conference is held on Christianity and Culture. The conference has been organized under the auspices of the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Józef Glemp and the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Kazimierz Ujazdowski. It has started a thirteen years' series of conferences dedicated to Christian contribution to Polish culture organized by theological faculties.

The ceremony is celebrated by the CSWU Great Chancellor, Cardinal Józef Glemp with participation of other invited guests: Auxiliary Bp Prof. Tadeusz Pikus, representatives of the government, members of Parliament and the Senate, members of the regional authorities, the University authorities and students, and representatives of the construction company 'Warbud S.A.'

11 October 2006 - a scientific conference on the 50th Anniversary of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński's Coming Back to His Primate Pastoral Ministry is held. The conference starts with the Holy Mass celebrated by the Primate of Poland, Cardinal Józef Glemp. Next the CSWU Rector, Fr Professor Ryszard Rumianek officially opens the conference. The introduction is presented by Bp Professor Andrzej F. Dziuba, director of the Centre of Documentation and Studies on the Person and Teaching of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. On 18th March 2006, on the eve of his name day, Cardinal Józef Glemp participates in the opening of a large format photography exhibition by Ryszard Rzepecki on a quarter of a century of Archpastoral Ministry of His Eminence.

On 18th March 2006, an all-Poland THE AUTHORITY OF TRUTH symposium on the education of children and youth in the contemporary world is held at the John Paul II assembly hall at the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in Warsaw.

'The Church and Primate Stefan Wyszyński in the years 1956-1966' scientific session commemorating the 25th anniversary of the death of the Primate of the Millennium, is organized by the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in Warsaw, The Institute of National Remembrance Commission for the Prosecution of Crimes against the Polish Nation, and the Independence Museum in Warsaw.
International scientific conference Cooperatores Veritatis Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI
On 20th and 21st May 2006, an international scientific conference Cooperatores Veritatis Joseph Ratzinger / Benedict XVI is held at the assembly hall of Radom Theological Seminary and on 22nd May 2006 at UCSW in Warsaw, followed by its third part held in Rome in summer. The conference is organised by the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in Warsaw, the Faculty of Theology (UCSW Chair of Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology in Radom, and Bishop Zygmunt Zimowski, the Ordinary of Radom.
Agreement to construct the new building of UCSW Centre for Education and Interdisciplinary Research signed
On 23rd May 2006, the UCSW Rector Professor Father Ryszard Rumianek and the President of Warbud S.A. Mr Włodzimierz Włodarczyk sign an agreement to perform construction and erection work of the new Assembly Hall Building, a part of a UniversityCentre for Education and Interdisciplinary Research in Warsaw. The investment is co-funded by the University, the European Regional Development Fund and Ministry of Science and Higher Education in Warsaw.
The Society of Psychology Students of the CSWU Institute of Psychology organises the First Psychology Picnic which is held on 23rd and 24th June 2007 at the seat of the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński University in the Warsaw district of Bielany. The event is held under the honorary patronage of Tomasz Koziński - the Mazovian viovode, Mirosław Kochalski - acting President of Warsaw, and Professor Father Ryszard Rumianek - Rector of the University.
2004/2005 ACADEMIC YEAR
Ceremony inaugurating the 2004/2005 academic year at UCSW
On 11th October 2004, the University celebrates the beginning of the sixth academic year. During the ceremony, The Primate of Poland is presented a book of remembrance on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of him being ordained bishop, and doctorate and habilitation diplomas are awarded. Moreover, Cardinal J. Glemp consecrates the new university building on the campus in Bielany, the so-called ‘walkway’ connecting the old University building with the new one.

On 24th November 2004, a symposium on Father Jerzy Popiełuszko – his service to the Church and the Nation commemorating the 20th anniversary of the martyr’s death of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko is organized by the Institutes of History and of Media Education and Journalism.
Occasional sitting the University Senate
On 7th April 2005, (on the eve of the papal funeral rites in Vatican) at an occasional sitting, the UCSW Senate adopts a resolution for the passing of the Polish Pope from this world for the Eternal Father.
Election of UCSW Rector
On 14th April 2005, at the special sitting, the UCSW Senate elects Professor Father Ryszard Rumianek the University Rector for the term from 1st September 2005 to 31st August 2006
Election of UCSW Vice-Rectors
On 21st April 2005, following the motion of the Rector-elect, the UCSW Senate appoints UCSW Vice-Rectors: Professor Father Henryk Skorowski, UCSW Professor Zbigniew Cieślak and UCSW Professor Tadeusz Klimski.

On 4th November, a session on The Church and the Universities in the teaching of John Paul II is organized on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of John Paul II election as Pope and the 4th anniversary of establishing the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński
Intercollegiate symposium of UCSW and CUL catechetics students
On 21st April 2004, an intercollegiate symposium of UCSW and CUL (Catholic University of Lublin) catechetics students takes place in Lublin.
Professor Father Jan Łach honoured
On 25th May 2004, Professor Father Jan Łach is presented a book of remembrance at a ceremony at UCSW. The meeting agenda covers as follows:

On 14th October 2002, a ceremony inaugurating the fourth year of academic, scientific and didactic work of UCSW takes place.
Professor Krzysztof Skubiszewski and Professor Andrzej Stelmachowski awarded UCSW Doctorate Honoris Causa diplomas
The dissertation of the distinguished laureate was supervised by Professor Father Helmut Juros of the Faculty of Historical and Social Sciences.
The Cardinal gives a lecture on The Holy See in the international community.

2000/2001 ACADEMIC YEAR
2001 announced the year of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński at UCSW
On Monday 16th October 2000, a second a ceremony inaugurating the 2000/2001 academic year takes place. A few days later, on 19th October 2000, doctorate and habilitation ceremonies are held at the John Paul II assembly hall.
On 13th November 2000 a lecture by UCSW Rector Professor Father Roman Bartnicki on University in the contemporary world initiates a series of open lectures.
Visit by Cardinal M. Vlk
On 25th November 2000, Cardinal Miroslaw Vlk, the Archbishop of Prague and the Chairman of the Conference of the Episcopacies of Europe at the time, visits the University. Cardinal Vlk tours the UCSW campus in Bielany and during a visit to the UCSW Rector’s Office discusses the cooperation between Polish and Czech theological institutions.
On 20th December 2000, a Christmas Eve meeting with the faculty members, students, administration, library and maintenance staff is held at the University
Consecration of the Institute of Psychology building

On 4th November 1999, the first ceremony inaugurating an academic year at UCSW university is held.
Christmas Eve meeting with the Primate of Poland
To honour the 360th anniversary of the Warsaw district of Bielany a ceremonial session of the Council of the Warsaw district of Bielany is held. The session includes awarding an honorary citizenship of the Warsaw district of Bielany to HE Professor Father Roman Bartnicki - the UCSW Rector, in recognition of his personal involvement in the transformation of the Academy of Catholic Theology in Warsaw into the University of Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński in Warsaw.
